Danilo Vicioso

Who I am

  • Former COO of Tabs, a top-10 most viral brand on the internet
  • Built its creator program to 100M monthly social impressions, and the paid ad engine alongside it
  • Founded Mainstreet, a consumer home-services platform: a team of 70, $25M raised (Greylock, Khosla, YC, Tim Ferriss), and it failed
  • Before that: Quintessential Ventures, an early seat at a high-growth startup, and entrepreneur-in-residence at Prehype
  • I’m looking to move into growth specifically. The creative and ToF is the work I want to be doing every day

Rather than send a résumé I did a weekend of the job.

What I built

What I’d do here

  • My KPI: scale ad spend, hold target CAC. Everything else follows from that.
  • Week to week: launching a bunch of different experiments against your current best ad, losers killed early.
  • Scope and brief the work for UGC creators (makeup artists and everyday-routine creators who already film their base, and women who want makeup that’s good for skin), then keep a hook library of what won.
  • Reporting so you never have to ask. Daily CAC. Weekly what we learned. Monthly cohort payback.
  • I can run ads across channels (YouTube, Pinterest, search) but I’d start on Meta and only open the next one when CAC earns it.
  • Event tracking I’d spec and work through with your team. That part isn’t me.

I’d love to chat if this makes sense. Grab a time here.

THE STORY

A loose powder that asked women to trust minerals.

Leslie Blodgett became CEO of Bare Escentuals in 1994 and relaunched its mineral makeup as bareMinerals a year later. She ran the company for 16 years. Thirty years on, the loose foundation is still the one in the ads.

GROWTH PLAN · BAREMINERALS · 28 SEPT 2026

Scale spend. Hold CAC.

One number to protect, and a plan to spend more on Meta without it moving: more winning messages, creators with their own scripts, tested on a schedule, and stopped by gates we agree on before any money moves.

5 → 10creators, adding two a month after day 30 (proposed)
5–8new ads tested a week, inside the current budget (proposed)
$5,500creator cap in month one (proposed)
Day 30keep-or-stop call, on the numbers

Cover photos: bareMinerals, bareminerals.com. Every figure marked “proposed” is Danilo’s plan, not bareMinerals data.

01 · THE NUMBER

One number to protect. Seven ways it breaks. Three moves.

The number is blended CAC on Meta at the spend you want to reach. Everything below either protects it or tests whether it holds at a higher spend.

Mineral Veil and brush on marble
Mineral Veil and brush on marble
PROTECTTarget CAC at your chosen daily spend, set together in week one
THREE MOVES1. New messages, not new versions of “30+ years”
2. Creators with their own scripts, beyond the two current partners
3. Landing pages and first-order offers tested against your product pages
02 · VARIETY

Only variety absorbs variety.

bareMinerals runs a real always-on program: ten brand ads sampled on 28 Sept, most with 5–7 versions each, all started in August. But the versions test cuts and audiences, not messages. Three of the ten Library IDs carry the same “#1 loose mineral foundation, 30+ years” line.

03 · DISTURBANCES

Seven disturbances, scored, owned, gated by a number.

04 · THE CEILING

The ceiling. Five lines, with the assumed ones labelled.

Refund rate, first orders8%ASSUMED, replace in week one

THE MATH, WITH THE ASSUMED LINES$36 × 75% = $27.00 first-order margin. × (1 − 8% refunds) = $24.84. + 0.8 repeats × $27.00 = $46.44 twelve-month margin per customer. That $46.44 is the most a customer can cost.Replace the three assumed lines with your numbers and the ceiling recalculates. Target CAC sits well under it.
05 · TEST RAMP

The test ramp. The blanks are yours to fill on day one.

68$4007Set with you, day one

Tests run inside your current budget. Winners replace spend on tired ads. They don’t add to it.

06 · VOLUME

Whatever your CAC is, creative volume is what moves it.

At a fixed hit rate, more concepts tested means more winners, and more winners means more spend held at the same CAC. The hit rate is an assumption until your last six months replace it.

CONCEPTS TESTED / MONTHHIT RATE (ASSUMED)NEW WINNERS / MONTHSPEND EACH WINNER HOLDS (ASSUMED)ADDED SPEND AT TARGET CAC

07 · ALLOCATION

Where the next $100,000 goes.

$60,00060% · scale proven winners
$20,00020% · test new concepts (5–8 a week)
$15,00015% · creator partnership ads
$5,0005% · landing page and offer tests

Proposed split. It shifts toward scaling as winners prove out, and toward testing when fatigue shows.

08 · CHANNELS

What has to be true before a channel opens.

CHANNELOPEN WHEN (PROPOSED)WHY WAIT
TikTok (paid)Meta CAC holds for 30 days at 1.5× spendSame creative supply problem
YouTubeA creator tutorial beats the best Meta ad at equal spendLong tutorials need a proven script first
Retail media (Ulta, Sephora)Holdout shows Meta lift on retailOtherwise it pays twice for one customer
Amazon / Buy With PrimeBuy With Prime conversion tracked separatelyMuddies site CAC if blended
09 · PAYBACK

Payback is the real constraint, not CAC.

A $36 setting powder is a small first order, so the second order decides payback: the foundation, a tinted moisturizer or a set. And some customers you acquire on Meta will buy at Ulta or Sephora, where your site never sees it. Payback has to be judged on 90-day cohorts plus a retail holdout, not on site ROAS.

Day 0first order, $36 Mineral Veil
Day 30return window closes (free return shipping)
Day 60–90second order: base, tint or set
Month 12repeat rate (assumed 0.8 per customer)

Return terms from bareminerals.com shipping and return policy, 28 Sept 2026. The repeat rate is assumed.

08 · THE HARD PART

The part that makes this hard, handled first

RISKHOW IT’S HANDLED
SPF and skin-improving claimsOnly approved lines from a claim library. SPF numbers exactly as on the pack, and no clinical or before/after claims unless the brand supplies them

09 · SOURCING

How we find and test them

The roster comes from small everyday-makeup creators, under 5,000 followers, who already film their base routine. The warm pool is the five TikTok creators already tied to the brand. Each one gets a paid two-week trial on three scripts before she joins.

10 · SHORTLIST

The shortlist, and why most of it isn’t the roster

The research found the brand’s existing creators and the biggest makeup names on TikTok. The existing ones are the warm pool. The big names are far past the under-5,000 roster cap, so they’re a reference for formats and a separate paid-partnership decision, not roster picks.
